Bertha Maxine Bryant, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and servant of Christ, passed peacefully on October 18, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born on January 7, 1933, Bertha lived a life marked by unwavering faith, kindness, and love for her family and church community. She attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she met the love of her life, Walter “Wesley” Bryant.
Wesley became a Pastor and they ministered to congregations in London and Cumberland Kentucky, until he became ill and needed to leave the ministry. At that time they become involved in a dry cleaning business, owning several Sally Brent Cleaners until retirement. The two shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, serving the Lord and raising a loving family together until his passing.
Bertha was a long-time member of Williams Lake Church of the Nazarene, where she served faithfully for many years, including as the church’s Missionary President. Her passion for missions, heart for service, and dedication to the church left a lasting legacy on all who knew her.
Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and her precious great-grandchildren. She also was an avid reader of Beverly Lewis books. She also loved drinking Pepsi and eating anything chocolate, especially brownies and hot fudge sundaes.
She is survived by her loving children, Patricia (David) McCollom and Mary (Scott) Cox; grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew) Shoemaker, Rachael (Rev. Daniel) Rogers, and Scotty Cox; and great-grandchildren, Perry Shoemaker, Melody Rogers, Maelyn Rogers, Teddy Shoemaker, and Wesley Rogers. She is also survived by her beloved sister Alma Jay Masters.
Bertha was preceded in death by her dear husband Wesley; son Paul Bryant; her sister Evelyn “Susie”Ruth Hight; her brother Clayton “Buddy” Bales Moore Jr.; her sister Pauline “Polly” Clayton; her brother Elwood “Woody” Moore and her brother Shirley Moore.
Bertha became a Christian in her teenage years, when she gave her whole heart to Jesus. He guided and directed her through all the years of her life and she lived and served Him faithfully until her final breath. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and steadfast faith have touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered.
A visitation will be held at Coats Funeral Home-Waterford on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Williams Lake Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM with a visitation before the service from 10:00-11:00 AM.
