BURDER, BARBARA ANN of Waterford, formerly of Pontiac, Ocqueoc, MI, and Sun City West, AZ, passed away September 6, 2021 at 96 years of age. Loving wife of William for 73 years; cherished mother of Nancy (Fred) Calabro and David (Margaret) Burder; grandmother of Bill Burder and Angela (Wayne) Dempsey; great grandmother of Ian, Abbie, and Morgan; sister of Mary (the late Bob) Jones, Joan (the late Raymond) Castillo, and Sara (Michael Tripp) Lee. Barb graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor degree in education. She was a Spanish teacher for the Pontiac School District for 25 years and retired in 1981. Summers were spent in their home in Ocqueoc with summer days on Lake Huron. After retirement, she and Bill wintered in Sun City West, AZ and would return to Ocqueoc in the summers. In her spare time Barb was an avid reader, expert quilter; gardener; and active member of the Canterbury community serving on the Residence Board and participating in numerous activities and events. Not one to shy away from a little adventure or challenge, Barb walked the Mackinac Bridge five times and completed a 5K with her son in law. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and the many friends at Canterbury on-the-Lake in Waterford. A memorial service for residence only will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 2 PM at St. Luke’s Chapel at Canterbury on-the-Lake. Service will be broadcast on Coats Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial Friday, September 17, 2021 at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her memory to Canterbury on-the-Lake.
