William "Bill"
Allen Laing
Nov 6, 1947 — Jan 25, 2026
Gladwin
LAING, WILLIAM A. "BILL", passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 2026, at 78 years of age. Bill was the loving companion of Ardis Foust for more than 40 years and a devoted family man whose life was filled with laughter, craftsmanship, and time spent with those he loved most.
Bill was the loving son of the late James and the late Jackie Laing; the dear father of Shannon Lighthall and the late Michael Laing; Christine (John) Cooperrider; and Cheryl Kee. He was a cherished grandfather of Madi (John), Maecy, Jenna (Jon), Caitlin (Marco), Angela (Mike), and Sebastian (Keri Anne); and a proud great-grandfather of Branson, Archie, Cyrus, Florence, Phoebe, Aurora, and Makenzi. He was the loving brother of Richard Laing.
A graduate of Waterford Kettering High School, Bill built a long and dedicated career with General Motors as a skilled tradesman, retiring in 1999 after more than 30 years of service. Known for his strong work ethic and reliability, Bill took pride in providing for his family.
Bill had a great sense of humor and an easygoing nature that made time with him enjoyable. He loved evenings spent around campfires on the lake, where stories, laughter, and quiet moments were shared. An avid sports fan—especially football—Bill rarely missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams.
A skilled craftsman, Bill found joy in woodworking and took pride in creating beautiful, practical pieces. From tables and lamps to the beloved TV trays that became a favorite in many homes, his handiwork lives on as a lasting reminder of his talent and generosity.
Bill will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the steady presence he brought to the lives of those who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family and the many memories they hold dear. Arrangements entrusted to COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. To post a tribute, visit www.CoatsFuneralHome.com.
