SWEET, WALTER JOHN, JR., age 92 of South Branch (formerly of Waterford), passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023. He was born on February 22, 1931 in Detroit to parents Walter and Helen (Lee) Sweet. Walter proudly served as a Sergeant in the US Army/Korean War and later retired from Ford Motor Co. after 42 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed hunting, boating, bocce ball, snowmobiling, golf and watching the Detroit Red Wings but the great love of his life was his family - especially Arlene. Walter is survived by his children: Ann Baker, John (Barbi) Sweet II, Mark (Patti) Sweet, Denise Sweet, Joyce (Paul) Bowers, and Michele (Joel) Eaton; grandchildren: Jennifer (Tony), Brian, Brad, and Lauren (Andrew); great grandchildren: Ian, Grant, Will, and Hollis; brother, Richard Sweet; and sister-in-law, Nellie Cloutier. He was preceded in death by both parents; loving wife of 52 years, Arlene Sweet; and sister, Betty Macek. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, June 26, 2023 at COATS FUNERAL HOME – WATERFORD with luncheon immediately following at Deer Lake Athletic Club, Clarkston. Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 25, 2023 from 3-7 PM. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to Fisher House in honor of Walter.
