SWORD, VERNON of Waterford, passed away December 9, 2020 at 100 years of age. Loving husband of Columbia for 72 years; dear father of Peggy (the late Tom) Hopper, Larry (Karen) Sword, Sue (Doug) Schilling, Randy (Judy) Sword, and William Sword; grandfather of 9; great grandfather of 6. Preceded in death brothers and a sister. Vernon was a veteran of US Army-WWII. He retired from Pontiac Motors in 1986 after 37 years of service. Vernon spent 30 years at Plant 15 and missed the friendships he had with many of his co-workers. Repairing lawn mowers after his retirement he would earn the name "Vernon the Lawn Mower Man". He enjoyed gardening; playing Tonk and Rummy; and sitting under the garage door. A very thoughtful man, Vernon will be remembered for his hearty laugh and sense of fun. He will be dearly missed by his loving family. Funeral service will be Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 1PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD Family will receive friends Sunday from 11 AM until time of service.
