Morgenstern, Thomas Lee, Sr. Age 64, of Waterford, Michigan, went to be with Lord suddenly on August 6, 2020. He was born on November 6, 1955 in Plainwell, Michigan; the second son of the late William E. and Mary Lou ( Sheldon) Morgenstern. Loving and devoted husband of Jan (Taylor) Morgenstern for 43 wonderful years.Tom was blessed with three children; Brad Johnson of Davenport, Iowa; Tom Morgenstern Jr. and Allison (Blake) Peters, both of Waterford, Michigan.Tom was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren; Alyssa (Jeremiah) Lynch; Shelby Johnson; Josie Johnson; and Daizie Johnson, all of Iowa; and Ava and Grace Peters of Waterford, and was also a special Grandpa to Aria Beasley and Giana Brown of Waterford.Tom grew up the middle child of three boys; in a military family. His father was in the Army and the family moved several times during his service, residing in Tennessee, Illinois and twice in Michigan. Dear brother of Russ (Julie) Morgenstern and the late Bill (Marilyn) Morgenstern.Tom attended Rock Island High School in Illinois for the better part of high school; yet the family returned to their home state in Michigan, where he graduated from Berkley High School in 1974.Tom and Jan married on October 9, 1976, living first in Berkley for a few years, and then moving (way up north) to Waterford (as Berkley-ites called it back then). They have resided in their Winkleman home in Waterford to the present day.During his working life, Tom worked for Stanley Door Systems for 23 years at their Birmingham and Troy locations as a lead heavy press operator; union representative; and truck driver. After the company closed its doors in Michigan, Tom, with his exceptional natural skill at driving big rigs, was employed for several companies; Exxon Mobil, Kroger, and his last employment, UPS Freight out of Romulus where he put in ten long years. On the day he qualified for retirement and pension, he did just that. He looked forward to retirement for many years earlier, and was simply ecstatic about never going in to work again.Tom and Jan began their retirement plans to do some travel, and be snowbirds and got all set up with a big dually and a travel trailer that had a huge bunk house for the kids and grandkids to have fun with camping and family fun. The snowbirds hurried on down to Florida for the 1st time last winter, and discovered that's what they were going to do every winter to come!Tom was truly a happy man when God suddenly took him home. He was happy being home; he was happy in his marriage; he was happy when he was with his family; and he was loved by so many.Tom was a man of great faith in Jesus, his Savior, and he was a blessing to all those who shared their lives with him, as well as many other friends, and even strangers, whom he touched as well, each in their own special way. Tom will be sadly missed by us all.
