Stanley Joseph
Rama
Apr 21, 1937 — Jan 15, 2022
RAMA, STANLEY JOSEPH passed away January 15, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born and raised in Detroit and was a graduate of St. Rita's High School. He attended Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit, where he received a bachelor's degree and then to St. John Seminary, Detroit, to become a Roman Catholic priest but left before ordination. He went on to teach Latin and mechanical drawing at St. Clement High School in Centerline for many years where his unique style and enthusiasm made him one of the most popular teacher there. After teaching, he opened Rama's Coney Island on Greenfield in Detroit where he perfected the Rama Burger with its secret sauce. His brother Robert worked alongside him, and his sister did his creative signs and menus which made it a great family restaurant with good food and a ton of bad jokes. Years later, he entered the retail world with a stint at the Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor where he continued to make people laugh. In 2014, he moved to Medi-Lodge of Taylor where he continued to make those around him laugh and forget if just for a second, they were getting old too! The Medi-Lodge staff knew him well and it was a family he enjoyed until the end.
Stanley was known to many as "Uncle Goofy". He had a presence larger than the room and filled it with his laughter, fun and jokes. He will always be remembered for his robust love of life, his generosity, ribald sense of humor, talent for interior decorating, and the lack of a vocal filter.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Regina Rama (Portalski); his brother, Joseph; and his sister, Christine. Left to cherish Stanley's memory are his loving brother, Robert "Bob" (Debbie); brother-in-law, Greg Raiss; nieces, Kim Rushing and Valerie Raiss; nephews, Adam and Christopher Rama; great nephews, William Rushing, and Jayden Rama; and great niece, Alicia Rushing.
Condolences for the family and special memories of working with Stanley may be left in the online tribute wall. Memorial will be celebrated privately with family.
