Obituary

Sharron Lynn Markey, 84, of Troy and Rochester, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, friendship, faith, and family that will continue through the many lives she touched.

Sharron Lynn was the loving wife of the late Richard Terrence "Terry" Markey, with whom she shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Kimberly (Christopher) Gurak and Sheila (Mike) DeFilippis, and a cherished grandmother to Ryan (Lacey), Kristopher (Sara), Megan (Rich), Danielle (Zak), Alexandra, Samantha, and Zachary. She was a proud great-grandmother to Parker, Landon, Kaleigh, Arianna, Violet, Rickie, Charlotte, Layla, and Lucas. Sharron Lynn was also a beloved sister-in-law to Daniel (Kyle) Markey and a loving aunt to Brandon (Stephanie) Markey and their children, Ben and Morgan, and Adam (Sarah) Markey.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harriet Winifred Matzen and Frank James Goddard, and her brother, Jimmy.

Sharron Lynn graduated from Osborn High School in Detroit in 1960 and went on to build a successful career as a realtor, working for more than 30 years. She took great pride in her work and in the relationships she formed throughout her career. She had a genuine gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and cared for.

Faith was an important part of Sharron Lynn's life. She was an active member of her church and Bible study group for many years and she was a lifelong Sonshine Sister, where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. Her faith and kindness were reflected in the way she lived each day.

Sharron Lynn found her greatest joy in the people she loved. She treasured time spent with family and friends and was truly a friend to all. She enjoyed golf, gardening, bird watching, playing games and cards, and water aerobics. As an active member of the Rochester Garden Club, she shared her love of gardening and nature with others while building even more cherished friendships.

Those who knew Sharron Lynn will remember her warmth, generosity, sense of fun, and unwavering love for her family. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel like they belonged, and her friendships and family bonds were among the greatest treasures of her life.

Sharron Lynn will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends.

The family will receive friends at Coats Funeral Home – Waterford on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
