(nee Methner)/ p class="Default"91, a lifelong resident of Coleman, passed peacefully at Autumn Ridge of Clarkston, MI on Friday, April 1, 2016 surrounded by her family and the staff at Autumn Ridge and Grace Hospice. Born October 1, 1924 in Isabella County to the late William and Emma (Gilbert) Methner, Ruth was one of nine children. She was predeceased by her two brothers William and Vern; and proceeded by sister Alta Gross on May 6, 2016. Ruth married Robert D. Gordon from Clare on February 10, 1944. They resided in Coleman and together had four children. They were married 52 years until his passing in January 1996. After graduating from Coleman High School, Ruth went to work at Dow Chemical while raising a family. She was a loving, caring devoted mother who enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, sports and took pride in her home. After retiring from Dow Chemical in 1983, Ruth wintered in Florida until 2012. She will be remembered for her warm smile and love of life. Left to honor and to cherish her memory are three sons, Greg (Maura) Palau, South Pacific; John (Kathy) Clarkston, MI; Mike (Pam) Ft. Myers, FL; a daughter Tracy (Tim) Riley of Saratoga Springs, NY; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters: Velma Orsquo;Connor; Joan (Dick) Diment; Lori Anthony; Kasey (Don) Dennis; Phyllis (Jim) Simon; two sisters-in-law, Coral Methner Blackmore and Doris Methner; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Autumn Ridge of Clarkston and Grace Hospice for their loving care of Ruth. She enjoyed her time at Autumn Ridge and considered everyone her extended family.
