Rudy Roy Yapo, age 79 of Waterford, passed away on November 2, 2022 with his family by his side. Rudy was born on June 18,1943 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Son of the late Silvestre and Josephine Yapo, brother to the late Philip Yapo and survived by brother Gary (Dorothy) Yapo. Loving husband of Laraine of 52 years, dear father of Jennifer (Steven) Szymanski and Brad (Alana) Yapo, and proud grandfather of Dylan, Noah, Isabelle, Ava, Tristan and Kane. Rudy graduated from St. Fred's High School in Pontiac, Michigan in 1961 and graduated from Oakland University in 1975 with a Bachelors in Economics. He was drafted into the Army in 1966, attended Army Officer Candidate School and was a Captain in Vietnam. Rudy worked at the GM Proving Grounds as a Data Analyst/Supervisor for 30 years. Rudy always kept active. He was a board member of the Golden Age Club and volunteered at the Waterford Recreation Center (formerly CAI) and the Yapo Computer Learning Center Food Pantry. He loved spending time with family and friends. Rudy liked playing cards, golf, softball, racquet ball, basketball, and bowling. He enjoyed coaching and watching sports, especially baseball. He was an avid collector. And he liked to travel and spend time at his cottage up north in Au Gres. His presence in the lives of all those who knew and loved him will be deeply missed. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 4-8pm at COATS FUNERAL HOME – CLARKSTON, and again on Friday at church, one half hour prior to mass, beginning at 9:30am. Private interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Rudy to the Wounded Warrior Project.
