Obituary

CRISS, ROY J., of Davisburg, went home to be with his Lord, Friday May 8, 2020 at the age of 90. He was born on April 12, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, the son to the late William and Delta Criss. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Lou whom he married on January 17, 1951 in New Baltimore, Michigan. He is survived by his son Daniel (Helen) Criss; grandchildren Ayrton J. (Michelle) Criss and Vaughn A. Criss; sister Sally Metcalf and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Walter Criss, sister in law Delores Criss and brother in law Wally Metcalf. Roy served his country proudly in the U S Navy. He was very involved in his churches over the years. He was a member of Bethesda Christian Church in Sterling Heights and later when moving north attended both the River Church in Waterford, Holly, and Grand Blanc. During those years, he enjoyed mentoring children and adults in Sunday School and several men's groups. He was involved in Prison Fellowship and was in charge of transportation for the Billy Graham Crusade when held at the Pontiac Silverdome. He was very close to his sister Sally who lives in South Carolina, where they would talk to each other at least once a day. She was able to Facetime him just before he died on Friday. Lastly Roy will be known for his stories and jokes, which he was doing right up to his death with doctors and nurse at the hospital. Memorial donations may be made to The River Church Grand Blanc (8393 E. Holly Rd. Holly, MI 48442). A graveside service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
