I made it to 100!

James, Robert Alvin of Pontiac, MI passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 100 years of age. Beloved husband of 74 yrs to the late Bertha M. James (Watts); father of Barbara Ann (Dennis) Kinder, the late Robert Wayne James and the late Howard Anthony James.

Brother James, as his church family called him, was a good old fashioned farm boy born in Trenton, Tennessee in 1922. Weight lifting saved him from being crippled after being crushed by a tracker on the farm. It was then he met and later married his candy striped sweetheart Bertha Mae Watts in 1944 and later moved to Pontiac, Michigan where he began his career as a skilled tradesman for Pontiac Motors for over 30 years.

He was an honest and caring man who loved the Lord with all his heart and encouraged you to follow after him through his dinner table chats. He knew the biblical map and bible verses like the back of his hand and thoroughly enjoyed educating any would-be-visitor. Brother James dedicated his gifts, time and resources to First Open Bible (now Harvest Land Ministries) since 1956.

Alvin adored his family, his wife's prize winning coconut cakes, pecan pies and roast beef dinners. With 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren running around he found numerous opportunities to tease with juicy fruit gum or slow poke suckers hiding in his shirt pockets.

He was a treasure!, a cowboy, tough as nails with the best hugs money could buy. He will be missed and always remembered.
