CAREY, RICHARD L., 79, of Waterford/Holly passed away on July 15, 2020 in Holly, Michigan. Born in Clarkston, MI, the son of Edward and Vernice Carey who predeceased him, Richard was a lifelong resident of Waterford until 2005. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda, son, Michael Carey of Burton, James (Kelly) Carey of Milford, granddaughters Grace and Natalie, brother Robert (Patricia) of Clarkston, and eight nieces and nephews. His oldest son, Andrew, predeceased him in 1989. When Richard was younger, he enjoyed bowling, golf, and snowmobiling. Richard served in the Navy and was a member of the American Legion. In 1991, he retired from General Motors after 30 years of service and then worked 10 years with the Waterford School District at Pierce Middle School and Waterford Kettering High School. Richard is a Past Exalted Ruler and Honorary Life Member of Pontiac-Waterford Elks #810, Life Member of Family Campers and RVers, a Charter Member of Nature's Nuts camping chapter, and Life Member of the Lake Cumberland Kentucky Colonels. Richard and Linda enjoyed traveling the country and have visited all 50 states. The last several years they wintered in Arizona where Richard enjoyed playing Texas Hold 'Em with fellow snowbirds having won the annual tournament two years in a row. A graveside service will be held at Ottawa Park Cemetery on July 23, at 2:00. A Celebration of life will be held on August 9, 2020 at The Oakley in Holly from 2:00 to 6:00 so family and friends can gather and share memories.
