EGRES, REX GEORGE, age 85 of Ortonville, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021. He was born on August 2, 1935 in Ithaca, Michigan to parents Rudolph and Gertrude Egres. Rex was the proud owner (or the President as he would say) of Rex's Union 76 Service Station at Sashabaw and Maybee roads from 1971 until 1982. He worked for the emergency crew at the Waterford Hills Racetrack from 1961 until 2009 and he also had seven wreckers that he used for truck pulls at 4H fairs, Pine Knob, and the Silverdome. Rex could be seen quite frequently riding around with a dog in the back of his tow truck. He loved baking bread and homemade cinnamon rolls for everyone. Rex was an active and loyal member of Waypoint Free Methodist Church, serving on the Men's Breakfast group for 30 years, playing on the church basketball and softball teams. He also helped on many church mission trips. Rex and his wife Cheri loved traveling and he loved going places in his motor home. It didn't matter where they traveled, Rex would undoubtedly run in to someone he knew. With his life of the party personality and social butterfly habits, Rex never met a stranger. He was friendly to everyone he met and never refused to help. More than anything, he loved his family and friends and he cherished every moment spent with them. Rex is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cheryl; children: Cyndi (Jim) Bailey, Tonya Kassis, and Rich (Audrey) Reynolds; grandchildren: Paul, Kaleena (DJ), Andrew, Anna, Rich Jr., Allyssa, and Angelina; great grandchildren: TJ, Bryce, Brina, Zaiden, and Emma; brother: Jerry Egres; daughter-in-law, Sandy; sister-in-law, Georgia Egres; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; son, Rex "Tyke" Egres, Jr.; siblings: Ted (Betty), Bob (Carol), Charlene (Don), and Mike. A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Waypoint Free Methodist Church. Pastor Chris Horvath officiating. Visitation will take place on Sunday one hour prior to the service at church, beginning at 2pm. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to the Waypoint Free Methodist Church Memorial Fund in memory of Rex.
