Philip Michael Hampton, age 88, was born in Ashville, North Carolina on September 5, 1932 to parents Boyd and Helen Hampton (nee Smith). After graduation from high school, Philip was accepted as a freshman at Berea College, in Berea Kentucky; a private liberal arts college. Philip met and married his late wife Wilma "Christine" Hampton (nee Gross), a fellow freshman at Berea College, on July 7, 1951. Their first child, a son, was born the following year. Philip received his Bachelors degree of Science and Geology in 1954, soon after graduation, they moved to Michigan where their second child, a daughter, Deborah Lynn Hampton, was born on September 7, 1954. A second son, Gregg Ashley Hampton, was born on March 6, 1957. Shortly after graduation, a very hard working and ambitious Philip worked as a civil engineer for Johnson and Anderson consulting engineers where he became executive vice president; eventually he owned and operated his own firm Hampton Engineering for over 20 years until he retired. Philip was fortunate enough to travel to many different continents such as Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe and got to enjoy the culture and cuisines the world has to offer. While supporting a family and a business he also found the time to be president of the school board in Waterford. Philip enjoyed modern art and briefly opened an art gallery in Birmingham. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community. Philip is survived by his three children Philip Jr., Deborah and Gregg, grandsons Maxwell Hampton and Ian Clark, granddaughters Emily Dufrane, Claire Pernar and Lindsay Hampton, and great grandchildren Avery Dufrane, Payson Dufrane and Cora Pernar.
