Obituary

THORNTON, PEGGY ANN, age 80, of Waterford passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022. She was born on April 2, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Robert Emil and Alice Lillian Spring (nee Humphrey); beloved wife of Calvin Eugene "Gene" Thornton for almost 60 wonderful years; loving mother of Brian (Janice) Thornton and Daniel (Christine) Thornton; proud grandmother of Rachel, Megan, Kara, and Max; dearest sister of Robert (Carolyn) Spring and Steve Spring; preceded in death by sister Linda Wellbaum and both parents. Peggy and Gene were acquaintances early in life and they began dating once he returned from the service. They reunited on Williams Lake and were married on July 7, 1962 and together they raised a beautiful family in Waterford. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, selling jewelry and cleaning homes for her clients that became lifelong friends. In her free time, she was an avid bowler, loved nature TV programs, named every cardinal and squirrel that came into the yard, and enjoyed all her pets and granddogs throughout the years. Peggy was often seen proudly driving her 1966 Mustang convertible she called "Baby" and frequently participated in the Woodward Dream Cruise. Most importantly, she loved being around her family. She often attended her grandchildren's school, arts, and sporting events. She was their biggest cheerleader and could be heard several fields over yelling "TO THE MOON!" when they were at bat. She was a woman of great faith and belonged to the Davisburg United Methodist Church. Peggy was hard working and very community oriented; she was an auxiliary member of the Heart of the Lakes VFW Post 1008 where she was voted Lady of the Year. She was also involved with the Waterford Senior Center and was Queen Mom of the Red Hat Divas. Peggy was a strong woman and never stepped away from what she thought was right. She will be deeply missed. No memorial or funeral services is scheduled at this time per Peggy's wishes. Memorial donations may be made on Peggy's behalf to Mercy Hospice
