Oscar Marvin
Lewis
Oct 26, 1938 — Nov 19, 2023
LEWIS, OSCAR MARVIN, age 85, of Warren, passed away November 19, 2023. He was born on October 26, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan to parents Oscar and Mary Lewis (nee Miller). Oscar was an incredible athlete; he was a first string running back and helped lead the Hazel Park Vikings to an undefeated victory his senior year in 1958. His nickname was Crazy Legs Lewis, #22. Shortly after graduating from high school, Oscar was drafted into the United States Army where he would spend the next two years driving Tanks. After he proudly served his country, he came back to Michigan and became a welder at Chrysler's Warren Truck Plant for 30 years, until he retired. For 3 decades he had perfect attendance, not missing 1 day of unexcused work. But what mattered most was family, especially his three girls. He loved southern food, fried chicken a favorite, and had a huge sweet tooth. A perfect day for Oscar was enjoying a couple cold beers, sitting on his back porch or in the living room, listening to his favorite sports teams like the Lions, Tigers, Wolverines, etc. on his transistor radio. Oscar is survived by two of his daughters: Shirley (Scott) Rives and Colleen (Fred) Vogler; sister: Patricia (Mike) Anderson; grandchildren: Dustin Vogler, Dylan Vogler, Madison Vogler, Cassie Lewis, and Blake Lewis; great grandchildren: Ivan and Norman Vogler; ex-wife: Judy (Lewis) Hammer. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter: Tandy Lewis; Parents; and great grandchild Norman's mother Amanda Boyer. Visitation will take place at COATS FUNERAL HOME – CLARKSTON on Thursday, November 30, 2023, starting at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service at NOON. Oscar will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Friday, December 1, 2023.
