Obituary

Nona Louise (nee Anderson) Chapin, of Clarkston, passed away April 11, 2022 at 95 years of age. Nona was born into the world on September 30, 1926 to Henry and Evelyn Anderson in Stanton, Michigan. There she met the love of her life, Donald Chapin, and when he proposed while they were on a date at the roller rink, she eagerly said, "Yes!" They were married in a small ceremony on May 22, 1943 in her parents' farmhouse and enjoyed over 72 years of marriage. During WWII, Donald was in the Air Force, and Nona followed him wherever he was stationed. After he was discharged, Nona and Donald eventually settled in Walled Lake, Michigan. After 49 years, they moved to Clarkston, MI.

Nona enjoyed a 30-year career with General Motors Fisher Body in Livonia and raising her four children. However, she never lost her love of traveling, and she and Donald took their kids on camping trips throughout the United States. Upon retirement, they were active members of the Coachman Club Chapter 5 and went on countless campouts and rallies, fostering lifelong friendships. Her organizational skills, keen memory, boundless energy, and outgoing personality led them to become Wagon Masters and organize camping trips for the Honey RV Company too. Their trips took them to all fifty states, including Alaska twice! However, Nona's favorite trips were to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Of course, she also could spot a Dairy Queen a mile away on all these trips and stopped at each of them! They wintered in Florida and Texas, and during those times Nona took up painting and other activities. She loved to attend concerts there and added quite a bit to her scarf collection!

Besides traveling, Nona delighted in her four children, ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild! Those who knew her, could not help but love her. She could organize an army, pack more in a suitcase than anyone could fit in an entire dresser, remember the tiniest detail about anything, cry while watching a tv commercial, and bring laughter wherever she may be.

She was received into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Monday, April 11, 2022. Her family will miss her scalloped potatoes and green beans, cupboard full of butter tubs, slip-on tennis shoes, greeting cards for every holiday, and endless appetite for sweets—especially cookies. Most of all, they will just miss her. Nonetheless, they rejoice that she is experiencing the fullness of Christ as she has now met Him face to face and await the time they are reunited in Heaven.

Nona was preceded into death by her dear husband Donald Laverne Chapin, daughter Paula Sue (Chapin) Smith, daughter-in-law Linda Chapin, and grandsons Michael Chapin and Donald William Chapin. She is survived by her loving children Jesse Chapin, Connie (David) Difatta, Larry (Cathy) Chapin, and son-in-law Dennis Smith, grandchildren Tim (Donna) Chapin, Theresa (Jeff Spencer) Corwin, Doug (Chris Brock) Chapin, Andy Chapin, Abbie (David) Schlie, Becky (Andy) Efird, John (Maria) Difatta, and Lisa (Chris) White; great-grandchildren Josh, Danielle (Trevor), Vanessa, Emerson, Greenlee, Kyle, Ryan, Tyler, Isabella, Elliana, Emma, Ben, Steven, Evelyn, Gianna, Lucia, Emily, and Carson; and great-great grandchild Morgan. Funeral service will be Friday, April 22, 2022 at 11 AM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-CLARKSTON, 8909 Dixie Hwy . She will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Family will receive friends Thursday 4-8 PM.  Ecclesiastes 3: 1-22.
