TOMPKINS, LYNN LYTLE February 17, 1936 - March 11, 2020 age 84, passed away March 11, 2020 at Canterbury-on-the-Lake senior living community located in Waterford, Michigan where she has resided since 2018.Lynn was born on February 17, 1936 in Stamford, Texas to Evelyn Ora Lytle and Noble Desmond Lytle. During Lynn's early years, her father worked for a small, family-owned dairy farm in Stamford. However, in the early 1940's, Noble and the family left Stamford to follow opportunities in the Permian Basin oil boom in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico, where he became a skilled and respected technical consultant with the Haliburton Corporation. The family eventually settled in Andrews, Texas.Following her graduation from Andrews High School in 1954, Lynn was accepted into the general studies program at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. After one year of studies, Lynn followed her sense of adventure and moved to Dallas where she could enjoy all the benefits of life in a large and rapidly growing city. After returning home to Andrews in 1957, she began work at a local insurance company. It was here where she was introduced to her future husband, Dr. Harry H. Tompkins. They were married on August 31, 1958.Following the birth of their first child, Kevin Benjamin on July 3, 1959, Lynn and Harry moved to Dallas where Harry joined a large, successful medical practice. They resided at 3525 Turtle Creek, Dallas' first high-rise apartment building. A second child, Stephen Lytle, was welcomed into the family on December 21, 1962.In 1963, the Lynn and her family departed for American Samoa where Harry participated in a U.S. government-funded research project investigating treatment and potential eradication of the parasitic tropical disease, lymphatic filariasis. The family returned to the United States in 1965 and lived in Odessa, Texas. Lynn and Harry's third child, Joshua Christopher, was born here on May 16, 1971.After moving to Ohio in 1972 and working toward finishing her undergraduate degree at the University of Akron, Lynn became interested in the business of travel. She joined Lodge Travel in Cambridge, Ohio where she worked as a licensed travel agent. After 3 years, she opened her own travel agency, Cambridge Travel, which she operated until she retired in 2007. She was a member of the Cambridge Rotary Club eventually serving as its President.Lynn is survived by her sons, Kevin (Sherry) Tompkins of Clarkston, Michigan, Stephen (Libbie) Tompkins of Euclid, Ohio and Dr. Joshua (Annissa) Tompkins of Los Angeles; a step-son, Tommy (Debbie) Tompkins of St. Petersburg, Florida; a sister, Betty Lytle Priest of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Stephanie, Hayden and Madison; and two great grandchildren.Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Noble, her husband, Harry Tompkins and two sisters, Jamie Lytle Schneider and Shirley Lytle Warren.
