Obituary

Laura Anne Petar, passed peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026, in Waterford, at the age of 92. She was the beloved daughter of the late George and Alice Stevenson.

Laura was a woman whose life was rooted in love, faith, family and kindness. She was the beloved wife of the late Dallas Anderson, with whom she shared 36 wonderful years, and also the late Arthur Petar, with whom she shared 24 additional years of happiness.

Laura was a loving mother to Susan (the late Richard) McIntyre, Nancy (Allen) Fields, and Cathy (Robert) Wright, and a devoted stepmother to Bren (Katherine) Petar, Carol (the late Dennis) Ahnen, and Katherine (Thomas) VanderElzen. She was a cherished grandmother of 11 and a loving great-grandmother to many. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was affectionately and lovingly known as “Grammie.” Her family was her greatest joy, and she never missed an opportunity to make those she loved feel special, cared for and welcomed.

Laura was a loving, giving and kind soul. Her gentle heart and warm spirit touched everyone who crossed her path. She had a way of making people feel like family, and her love extended far beyond her immediate family. She will be remembered for her caring nature, her generosity, her beautiful singing and the love she so freely gave to others.

Laura’s faith was an important part of her life. She was a devoted churchgoer and found comfort, fellowship and joy in her church family. Her faith carried her throughout her life, and those who knew her will find comfort in knowing that she has now been welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

Laura dedicated over 20 years of her life to Oakland Schools, where she worked doing what she loved in accounting, as part of the Finance Department. Laura also enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, creating many wonderful memories along the way with family and friends. Just like the flowers she enjoyed all her life, her love and beauty will bloom in our hearts forever.

Laura leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love and family. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the lessons she taught, the kindness she shared and the love she gave will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who were blessed to know her.
