Joyce Marilyn Thompson, age 87 of Waterford, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024. She was born on March 21, 1937 in Walled Lake to Leetha and James Phelps. Joyce grew up on a farm at Haggerty and Pontiac Trail where the Mona Lisa was painted on the barn. She worked at Michigan Bell and retired from AAA after many years of dedicated service. Joyce enjoyed painting, crocheting, playing cards, and working on word searches. She was a member of the Red Hat Society at the Waterford Senior Center. Joyce is survived by her daughters: Joyce (Todd) Norton, Lori (Brian) Jermalowicz, Lucinda (John) Klein, Cecile (Samuel) Studebaker, Cherroll (Steve) Peters; daughter-in-law, Colleen Thompson; sister, Shirley Burger; daughter of special companion, Tiffany Smith; 17 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by long time companion, Clifford Smith; previous husband, Donald Thompson; son, Donald Wesley Thompson; grandson, Daniel Norton; and sisters: Phyllis Devellis, Verna Klos, Wilma Aldred, and Charlotte Phelps. A funeral service will take place at 9:30am on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Coats Funeral Home – Clarkston. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 4-8pm and again on Thursday, one half hour prior to the service, beginning at 9am. Interment at All Saints Cemetery in Waterford. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to Residential Hospice or Waterford Senior Center to benefit the Encore Program.
