Joy Mary Powers, age 98, of Clarkston, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, shortly after celebrating her birthday surrounded by family.
Born on March 28, 1928, in Detroit, Joy was the cherished daughter of the late Barney Paul McKevitz and the late Catherine Betty McKevitz (née Wilson), and the cherished sister of the late Sandra Ann McKevitz. She lived a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to her family.
Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Powers, who passed on April 30, 2015. Together, they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage, building a legacy of love and family that will endure for generations.
She was the beloved mother of Kimberly (Todd) Miller, Laurie (Timothy) Pyykkonen, and Holly Powers. She was a proud and loving grandmother to James "Jim Bob" (Karen) Miller, Leslie (Patrick) Kelly, Laura (Andrew) Schwartzenberger, Kara Pyykkonen, Kory Pyykkonen, Douglas "Frankie" (Kristin) Weyher, and Natalie Weyher. She was also a devoted great-grandmother to Ella, Evelyn, Elliott, and Eloise, who brought her immense joy.
Joy dedicated part of her life working as the supervisor at Jacobson's Fine Jewelry, where she was known for her kindness and grace. Above all, she was a woman of deep and unwavering faith, a devout member of the Catholic Church who lived her life guided by compassion, humility, and love.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at St. Perpetua Church located at 134 Airport Rd, Waterford Township, MI 48327.
James 1-2: Today, we choose Joy—honoring her name and her spirit. Joy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her steadfast faith, and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in all who knew and loved her.
