Obituary

SHAFFER, JONATHAN (JON) PATRICK passed away on June 12, 2020. He was born on May 1, 1984 in Indianapolis Indiana. He moved later that year to Rochester, Hills Michigan with his family. Jon grew up in Rochester Hills attending grade school, middle school and Rochester High School. He was active in little league baseball, youth basketball, soccer, football and golf. Jon also had a passion for skateboarding and later wake boarding. After graduating from Rochester High in 2002, he earned a Bachelors degree in Integrated Studies from Ferris State University, including extensive coursework on video game design. Jon could take apart and repair almost anything and he recently found his passion working on and restoring cars. Jon maintained an Ebay store where he sold cameras that he had repaired. He was also an amateur photographer and took many pictures of family, friends and various shots he wanted to capture. Jon loved finding a good bargain and he would surprise his family with thoughtful gifts that he had found thrifting or in online marketplaces. Jon enjoyed playing video games and he was very skilled with technology. He befriended more than a few cats over the years, including his good buddy Julius. Jon had a great sense of humor and could light up any room when he got rolling. We will greatly miss his wit and his laugh. He generously helped his sisters and brothers-in-law with many projects around the house when they needed his helping hands.Jon is survived by his parents Patrick and Linda Shaffer (Clarkston, MI), his sisters Elizabeth (Nick) Schroeck (Bloomfield Hills, MI) and Sarah (Kevin) Locher (Lake Orion, MI) his grandmother Patricia Downing (Muskegan, MI) and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family is planning a private celebration of Jon's life at a later date.
