John Edward Vaughn, age 84, of Clarkston, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024. He was born on December 1, 1939, in Windsor, Ontario, to the late George Edward and Kathleen Grace Vaughn (nee Mahoney). John graduated from Clarence M. Kimball High School in Royal Oak in 1959. Following his graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his military service, he pursued his education at Oakland Community College and was employed by Ford Motor Company. Ford supported his academic pursuits at Lawrence Technological University, where he earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree. John dedicated over 30 years of his career as an Engineer with Ford, retiring at the age of 58. In his leisure time, John enjoyed visiting casinos and playing cards, particularly euchre. Known for his vibrant and adventurous spirit, he embraced life fully and cherished his experiences. He was an active member of the VFW Post 1008 in Waterford and the American Legion Chief Pontiac Post 377 in Clarkston, where he continued to serve his fellow veterans. John had a fond childhood memory of building boats with his father and their cottage in Kingsville, Ontario. John was always known for his candid and straightforward demeanor, which endeared him to many.
John is survived by his loving children: Robin Pehrson of Traverse City, Michigan, and Christopher (Tara) Vaughn of Frankfort, Kentucky; his sister Kathleen (Lawrence) Bell; his grandchildren: Trey, Cameron, and Griffin, and his significant other of 12+ years Ellen Osip; He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, the late Michael (the late Patricia) Vaughn.
A funeral service to honor John's life will be held on Monday, June 24th, 2024, at 2:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery (4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI). The family kindly requests loved ones to attend and celebrate John's life and legacy. John Edward Vaughn will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his love for his family, and his commitment to his country and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
