SAWYERS, John Warren, age 90 of Waterford, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Loving husband of the late Elizabeth. Dear father of John Herbert (Jane) Sawyers, Jean Fochesato, Julie (Bryan) Winning. Brother of Janice (the late Vern) Fellows. Grandfather of Katie (Jordan) Sawyers-Smith, Anna Avery, Andrew Sawyers, Vincent Fochesato and Chad Fochesato. Originally from Terre Haute, Indiana, but spent most of his life in Michigan. John attended Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute. He served his country in the United States Army in the 9th Infantry Division, stationed in Nuremburg Germany. After leaving the Army, he was an engineer at General Motors, Pontiac Motor Division for 30 years. After two years at small companies, John finished his career at Nissan Research & Development. He was a loyal 61-year member of Central United Methodist Church. John enjoyed golf and bowling. In retirement, he took up running and completed numerous half marathons, several Crim ten mile and various 5K races. He also enjoyed monthly luncheons with the Pontiac Motor engineering retirees. A funeral service will take place at 11am on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Central United Methodist Church, 3882 Highland Rd., Waterford. Pastor Jack Mannschreck officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 3-8pm at COATS FUNERAL HOME – WATERFORD and again on Wednesday at church, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10am. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Central United Methodist Church or Alzheimer's Association in honor of John.
