Obituary

NOLAN, JOAN DOROTHY was born November 18, 1935 in Pontiac and attended Pontiac High School. She later relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL where she was a buyer for Burdine's Department Store. She had a keen eye for fashion and a passion for interior decorating. When federated department stores were closed she became the office manager and personal assistant to a prominent orthopedic surgeon in south Florida and retired with over 35 years of dedicated service. Following retirement Joan moved back to Michigan to be close to her children and grandchildren. First and foremost she was always dedicated to family, and her three grandsons were the light of her life. Not the kind of person to sit around and do nothing in retirement, she started a cleaning and care giving business, and oh how she came to love her clients as extended family. She was funny and gracious, and always had a strong and determined work ethic. She loved the Lord so much that she made sure she raised her children to know Him as well. Joan is survived by her children, Terry (Barbara) Whittenberg, Robert (Susan) Vance, Belinda (Dennis) Rowan-Jones; grandsons Kyle Whittenberg, Kory Whittenberg, and Kody (Lexi) Whittenberg; brother David (Lois) Hills; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by daughter Alona Ruth Whittenberg, parents Jay Dudley and Edna Mary Hills; siblings Ruth Ann Ringl and Douglas Hills.Due to Covid-19 masks are required and 10 people in the building at a time. We graciously ask everyone to briefly pay their respects.
