Obituary

CARR, JOAN E., of Bloomfield Hills, MI, formerly of Fort Myers, FL, and Waterford, MI, passed away May 5, 2020, at the age of 90. Born August 10, 1929, Joan is the beloved daughter of the late Madah Barber. For 60 years, she was the loving wife of the late Judge Robert W. Carr; dearest mother of Wayne Carr, Brian (Tracy) Carr, Paul (Saule) Carr and Glenn Carr; adoring grandmother of Kristin Carr and the late Stephen Carr; sister to the late Jack "Al" Groesbeck. After high school, Joan attended business school and then went to work as an executive secretary for Ford Motor Co., where she met her husband-to-be, Robert. Robert and Joan married and raised four sons. Joan was a devoted homemaker who took wonderful care of her family. Soon after her sons were grown, Joan once again worked as executive secretary, this time for Perry Drugs. She also worked for a few years as a realtor. Robert and Joan were long-time members of Clarkston United Methodist Church, where Joan was active in the Women's Club. Both Robert and Joan loved music, traveling and enjoyed entertaining, golfing and bowling as well. Joan also enjoyed working in her garden and was an avid reader. Her favorite musical artist, by far, was Frank Sinatra. A visitation will be held Monday, May 11, 2020, from 4-8 p.m. at COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. Due to COVID-19 regulations, only ten people are permitted in the visitation room at one time and masks must be worn. Please be aware that you may have to wait before being admitted to the building. A private funeral will take place on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, with burial following at Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston. A memorial service and luncheon will be held later this year, once current COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
