Obituary

MURPHY, JAMES W. of Pontiac, passed away on October 28, 2026, at 84 years of age. Loving husband of the late Kathleen, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage; dear father of James (Kimberly) Murphy, Cheryl (Rafael) Gonzale-Murphy, Janice (Jim) Hall, Chris Murphy, and Kathy Jo Murphy; proud grandfather of 11, great-grandfather of 20, and great-great-grandfather of 6. Preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Lola (née Clayworth) Murphy, and siblings, Leona Stock and John Murphy.

Born in Albia, Iowa, James found the love of his life at a young age. He and Kathleen married when they were just 16 years old, beginning a lifelong journey together filled with love, family, and countless shared memories. Their marriage was a testament to the enduring bond they built over the years, and Kathleen remained his beloved companion until her passing.

James worked for General Motors for 35 years before retiring in 2000. A simple man who appreciated life's everyday pleasures, he enjoyed tinkering with cars, riding his bicycle, and settling in to watch his favorite Western movies. He was straightforward and no-nonsense, a man who said what he meant and appreciated the uncomplicated things in life.

Some of James's happiest moments were afternoon and evenings spent relaxing on the front porch swing, a cup of coffee in hand and Kathleen by his side, was time well spent.

James leaves behind a legacy spanning generations, with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward. He will be remembered for his practical nature and the many years he shared with Kathleen and his family.
