Harry Leonard
Ahlborn
Sep 12, 1919 — Dec 13, 2021
Waterford
AHLBORN, HARRY LEONARD, age 102, of Waterford, passed away December 13, 2021. He was born on September 12, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan, son to the late Henry Leonard and Bessie Ahlborn (nee Wylie); loving husband of the late Muriel Ahlborn (nee Wilmore) for 75 wonderful years; loving father of Sharon (the late Carl) Maier and Ronald (Cheryl) Ahlborn; proud grandfather of Carl Jr. (Christina) Maier, Kevin (Heather) Maier and Rebecca (Ken) Szlaga; great grandfather of Jacob, Matthew, Lucas, Brandon and Eric; predeceased by his brother Arthur (EvaGene) Ahlborn and his beloved dog Maggie. Harry was a decorated veteran who served in the United States Army Air Corp during WW2 stationed in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater as part of the 93rd Bomber group. He met the love of his life Muriel in London, England at a Red Cross dance. As soon as he laid eyes on her he knew she was the one, and in order to show how serious he was, Harry would bring her apples and other supplies from the base commissary because food was rationed and scarce in England. After the service, he became a master in masonry work, spending over 50 years laying brick. Harry was a life member of the Masons of Michigan and the Lions Club International. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing, and boating. Harry was a creator and a very talented woodworker; he built the family homes in Rochester, Lake Orion, and their retirement home in East Jordan, built a boat in his own basement, loved carving little ornate objects out of wood and gifting them to the people he cared about and so much more. Harry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021, 12 PM at Coats Funeral Home, 3141 Sashabaw Road, Waterford. Family will receive friends from 11 AM until the service starts. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date. Memorial donations in Harry's name may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
