Obituary

Gregory William Sprung, 67, passed away on August 27, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories that will be treasured forever.

Greg was the devoted husband of Sheila, his wife of 45 years, and together they built a beautiful life centered on family and friends.

He was the proud father of Curt Sprung, Andrew (fiancée Anastasia) Sprung, and Ardis (Adam) Curry, and the doting grandfather of Elizabeth and Lindsey Curry. His children and grandchildren were his greatest source of pride and joy. Greg had a way of making room in his heart for everyone: he was "Dad" to his children's friends growing up, "Grandpa" to his grandchildren's friends, and a fun uncle to many nieces, nephews, and family friends. He was the beloved and devoted brother of Diane Hoopingarner, Craig Redker, Denise Cline, Phillip Sprung, and Janet Sprung-Glover.

Greg was a gentle soul with a gift for lighting up a room; he never needed much in the way of material things to be happy. He could build or fix virtually anything and was always working on some kind of project. He worked at General Motors for 33 years as a proud UAW member, making many friends along the way. He enjoyed taking trips with his family to his grandparents' cabin in Lewiston, MI, making the place a little better every time he visited.

Greg didn't need to be the center of attention to make a room better. He showed up, smiled, laughed, and would make everything more fun. He was the guy you called when you needed a helping hand, advice, or just needed someone to listen and crack a good joke with.

He loved music and sports of all kinds and shared that passion with his kids: a good round of golf, bowling, softball, and Friday night high school football, cheering on his alma mater Pontiac Northern as well as Clarkston for his children and grandchildren, not to mention many rock concerts at Pine Knob with family and friends. He was always present at countless band concerts, marching band competitions, dance recitals, baseball games, and every event in between. He loved competition, but even more, the camaraderie, the stories, and the memories made along the way.

He will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, humor, and his gift for making people feel comfortable simply by being himself. Greg was one of those people who made life more enjoyable just by being in it, and he leaves behind a family and circle of friends who will carry his love and laughter with them for the rest of their lives.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the Fountains Golf and Banquet - 6060 Maybee Road, Clarkston, MI 48346 from 12:00 to 3:00 PM.
