Devoted daughter of the late Glen and Nina Mae Williams. Loving wife of the late LaVerne George Cox. Beloved mother of Dennis (Sue), David, Susan (Kevin), Sandra, Barbara (George). Cherished grandmother of Denise, Dennis Jr, Ryan (Leah), Sean (Christy), Erin (Tommy), Kelly (Josh), Nate (Jessica), Tessa, Katherine (Craig), Will (Emory) and great grandmother (GiGi) of Tyler, Dominic, Leighton, Kieran, Tristen (Makala), Brendan, Camden, Brady, Karly Mae, Jax, Jade, Jordan, Jenna.
Glenna Mae graduated from Pontiac High School in 1943 where she met LaVerne. They shared a love for music and were married on 1/25/1946 at First United Methodist Church in Pontiac. Glenna Mae would sing as LaVerne played the organ or piano. Glenna Mae was a loyal member of First UMC in Pontiac and then Central UMC in Waterford. She sang in the choir and played hand bells both at church and with Tuesday Musicale of Greater Pontiac where she was a member for over 70 years. She helped with various events at church and shared the beautiful gift of music when performing with Tuesday Musicale. She was known to share a smile and strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She would take great pride when people she met were in disbelief of her age especially when she turned 100.
Family was important to Glenna Mae and she enjoyed when family would gather after church for a delicious pot roast meal or at the holidays for a delicious ham slow cooked in Vernors ginger ale. Meals would often include the special Cox family Jello salad (lemon Jello, crushed pineapple & shredded carrots) and her favorite sweets including minced meat and cherry pies. She made a delicious applesauce using Macintosh apples for their beautiful red color. Family could always count on her house being decorated for each holiday and candy dishes filled with holiday treats (especially seasonal colored M&Ms and Hershey kisses). Christmas was extremely special and she would put up two trees: one tree in the living room and a second tree in the family room. It brought Glenna Mae great joy to pick out & mail family members the perfect greeting card for a birthday, anniversary, and the holidays.
Glenna Mae enjoyed traveling to visit family both in-state and out of state especially for special occasions like births, graduations and weddings. Glenna Mae and LaVerne’s honeymoon trip was to Niagara Falls and it was special taking the family on a road trip to visit Niagara. She marveled at the beautiful scenery on trips to England (where some cousins still lived), the Blue Ridge mountains and the Atlantic coast. She was a loyal Michigander and enjoyed the beautiful sites the state has to offer
including Mackinac Island and Grand Haven. She enjoyed local trips too such as to her parents’ cottage on Buckhorn Lake in Rose Township for a swim, to watch airplanes take off and land at Detroit Metro and Willow Run airports, to local Cider Mills for cider and donuts, to the Farmers Market for strawberries and corn on the cob, to Frankenmuth for a delicious chicken dinner or to the Big Boy for a handmade chocolate milk shake.
Her house was always tidy and clean. She would have a gallon of milk in the fridge and bananas on the countertop. You would only find a General Motors brand car in her garage thanks to her loyalty to LaVerne’s employer (Pontiac Motors). She also was thrilled when she would see her initials on the tailgate of a GMC Truck. She was very active and neighbors would often see Glenna Mae (even at 93 years old) washing windows, cutting the grass or using a snow thrower. She also enjoyed sitting in her sunporch admiring the blue sky and sunshine, looking at flowers blooming or the leaves changing color and hearing an occasional train go by on the nearby track.
Glenna Mae had a strong faith and was prepared for the day the Lord would call her home. She is now at peace in heaven and has joined LaVerne, her parents and all the other beloved family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held for Glenna Mae at Central United Methodist Church, 3882 Highland Rd, Waterford on Friday, December 11, 2026 at 11 a.m. The family will receive guests 10 a.m. until time of service. Glenna Mae and LaVerne will be interred together in a private ceremony at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
The family would like to thank all of Glenna Mae’s friends for your kindness over the years. We extend a special thanks to the care team at The Orchards at Canterbury-on-the-Lake and Assured Hospice Care Inc. in Southfield for the compassion and love they showed Glenna Mae, especially in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Central United Methodist Church or the Scholarship Fund of Tuesday Musicale of Greater Pontiac.
