Gary Gordon Heaton aka "George", 77, of Grand Blanc formerly of Waterford passed away peacefully on December 10, 2020 with the love of his family surrounding him. He was born on May 28, 1943, the son of Gordon and Norma (Fisher) Heaton.Gary was a builder, police sergeant, farmer, even a photographer - a jack of all trades and master of many. He graduated from Waterford Kettering High School and attended Ferris State University until being offered a great job as a photographer for GM. Police work, however, was his calling and he graduated from the Police Academy in 1971 and had a great career with the Waterford Township Police Department with many titles like Range Officer, Hostage Negotiator, creator of the SRT/SWAT team and many more! He retired after 29 years with the rank of Sergeant! But he could not stop working as an officer and followed many of the retirees and became an Oakland County Sheriff's Office Deputy. His passion though was always farming. He farmed his grandfather's land growing up (now part of Indian Springs Metro Park) and his families' farms in Iowa to being the caretaker/farmer at Hess Hathaway Farm for over 20 years! You could always find him on the tractor. He was an avid athlete. He played football, basketball and baseball. He even received an offer from the Cleveland Indians! His greatest joy though was being the oh so vocal fan of his children's and grandchildren's sports and activities! You knew he was there! He was the loudest fan in the stand! He was an inspiration and loved by so many.Gary is survived by his wife, Gayle (Crigger) his high school sweetheart, his four children, Kim Mortimore, Kristine (Jeff) McNamara, Karan (Bob) Daily, and Greg (Erika) Heaton. He loved his twelve grandchildren, Robbie (Sofiah), Brent (Fiona), Jacob, Megan (Jake), Jessica (Alex), Heidi, Ryan (Brooke), Garrett, Hannah, Mitchell, Conner and Taylor and his two great-grandchildren Lucy Belle and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother Ray (Judy) Heaton, sister Raeann (Bob) Mooney, sister-in-law Diane Wright, and brother-in-law Rick (Lavon) Crigger along with many nieces, nephews and cousins nationwide who adored him. He is preceded in death by his sister Cyndi (Otto) Junod.
