DOWNIE, EUGENE EVERETT, of Waterford, passed away July 12, 2019 at 82 years of age. Born May 4, 1937 in Lincoln, Michigan, son of the late Everette and Trena Downie; beloved husband of Phyllis for 4 years and the late Deanna Downie for 50 years; loving father of Scott (Nadine) Downie, Brian (Amy) Downie and Kristen (Wayne Bowditch) Rose; proud grandfather of Sara, Leah, Noah, Kyle, Nathan, Ava, Hunter and Logan; dearest brother of Janet (Bob), the late Bob (Bev), the late Nancy (Jack), Don (Pat), Pat, Roy (Mary), the late Glen (Geri), Jack, Marion (Rich) and Linda (Randy). After high school Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his enlistment he went on to get a Master's degree in education at Western Michigan University. He spent over 35 years teaching in the Waterford School district and during that time he taught Industrial Arts and became an Administrator later on in his career. He was passionate about personal growth and loved taking the time to coach and inspire Waterford's youth in many different sports. One accomplishment he was very proud of was introducing a program called Home Mechanics to women in junior high. Gene was part of the Pontiac-Waterford Big Chief Chorus and loved woodworking, singing, music and in his free time as well as helping other people especially his family.
