Eric Walter Nelson passed away on March 2nd, 2021 at home in the presence of family members, after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. He was born on July 1st, 1952 in Waterford, Michigan. Eric was preceded in death by his father, Walter Nelson. Eric was survived by his mother, Sally Nelson, his former wife, Valerie Nelson, and their children Elisabeth Nelson, Joshua (Katie) Nelson, Elijah (Zanib Arshed) Nelson, Noah (Jessie Hoxie) Nelson and Caleb Nelson, as well as his grandchildren Isaac, Millie, Nora and Layla, sisters Diane Nelson and Debra Barker (Norman), brother Leif Nelson, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his caregiver of many years, Lisa Brown. After attending Taylor University, Eric started a career at the Pontiac Wastewater Treatment Plant where he worked his way to Administrator of Public Utilities before retiring after 30 years. Before the advancement of his disease, Eric was an outgoing and active person who was involved in his church and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. After a lengthy disease process, Eric remained joyful in seeing his family members and thoroughly enjoyed food. He was always willing to flash a genuine smile and was loved by everyone he met. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Saturday, March 13th, 2021 at Coats Funeral Home, located at 3141 Sashabaw Rd, Waterford Twp, MI 48329. A Memorial Service to follow will be restricted due to COVID-19 regulations. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
