MECUM, EMILY LOUISE aka SHINEY (nee Haynes), of Waterford, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 85 years of age. Beloved wife of the late John; loving mother of Tammy (Timothy) Moery: proud grandmother of Kyle (Zurika) Moery; sister-in-law of Joan Haynes, Sandy (the late Rexford) Mecum, Donald (the late Patty) Mecum and Charles and Brenda Mecum; aunt to many nieces and nephews; preceded in death by her parents Alfred Haynes and Ruby Farley (nee Moore) and her brothers Alfred Haynes, Donnel Haynes and Phillip Haynes. Emily grew up in a coal camp near Layland, West Virginia, where she was a cheerleader in high school. When the coal mine her father worked at closed, the family moved to Michigan so he could work in the auto industry. Emily met her future husband John when she worked as a waitress at a bar near the Fisher Body Plant where he worked. She worked for the Oakland Press and other various clerical positions during her career. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, bingo, casinos, shopping for clothes, and making family and friends fudge and peanut brittle for the holidays. Emily will be dearly missed by all those who loved her. Immediate family will be having a private burial at Perry Mount Park Cemetery.
