Elden Frank
Montross, Sr.
Dec 6, 1937 — Dec 1, 2025
MONTROSS, ELDEN F., SR. of Waterford, passed away December 1, 2025 at 87 years of age. Loving husband of Betty (née Moery) for 68 wonderful years. Proud father of Sue (Brad Tipolt) Montross, Wendy (Greg) Yates, Elden (Susan) Montross, Jr., and Jeffrey (Rebecca) Montross. Cherished grandfather of Elizabeth, Michael, Erin (Duffy), Maria (Josh), Taylor, Keane (Emily), Alexander, Ryan, Kaden, and Isabella; and great-grandfather of Hunter, Raelyn, and Oliver.
A veteran of the United States Army, Elden lived a life defined by service, humility, and devotion to others. He retired from Pontiac Motors in 2000 after more than 43 years of dedicated work. A longtime and active member of First Free Methodist Church in Pontiac and recently attended Community Presbyterian Church, he was steadfast in his faith and daily Bible reading.
Elden's commitment to young people and his community was unwavering. From his early years working with Boy Scouts alongside his sons to his involvement with juvenile court, he poured his time and heart into mentoring and encouraging youth. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing trips to Canada with his sons, always inviting different groups along—though he was firm about his "no smoking or drinking" rule. A passionate conservationist, he was a life member of the Oakland County Sportsmen's Club, former vice president of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, a lifetime member of the NRA, and active in more organizations than can be counted.
Blessed with a quick wit and warm humor, Elden never met a stranger; he could bring a smile to anyone, even the most serious soul. Above all, he was a godly, kind, and gentle man who adored his family. He devoted his life to caring for his loved ones and placed their needs above his own. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 8, 2025 at 12:30 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME – WATERFORD. Burial with military honors will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. A luncheon will be held at 4 PM at Overtyme Bar & Grill, 4724 Dixie Hwy, Waterford. Family will receive friends Monday from 11:30 AM until the time of service.
