(nee. McDonald); of Waterford, Michigan passed away on February 19, 2016, at 103 years of age. She now joins her husband Bill, the love of her life, who passed away in 1959. She is survived by a son Bruce (Sherry) Cobb and daughter Julie Zaremba. Effie had four grandchildren; Paula Cobb (Terri) of Boston, Michael Cobb of Portland, Maine, Kristin (Rod) Olmedo of Clarkston and Kara (Keith) Yater of Waterford. She had four great grandchildren; Ben and Allie, Annabelle and Tommy. She was preceded in death by sister Viola Houghmaster and brother George McDonald, step sister Marge Leider, step brother Clinton McDonald and grandson in law George Khalifa. Effie was born in Wausaukee, Wisconsin to parents Hugh and Mable (Lee) McDonald on April 17, 1912. After her parents both passed away in the great flu epidemic, she and her siblings were very grateful to be taken in by her Uncle Angus McDonald and wife Belle of Millersburg, Michigan and raised there. Upon marriage to Bill Cobb of Detroit in 1939, they moved briefly to Detroit and then to Waterford in 1942. Her career as a teacher began in one room schools in the Upper Peninsula after earning a teaching certificate from the county normal in Onaway, followed after years of night school by a BA from Wayne State. In the early 60rsquo;s she went back to full time teaching in Waterfordrsquo;s McVittie and Sandburg elementary schools, receiving great pleasure in helping her students get off to a good start with their education. Effie was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church, Waterford and Delta Kappa Gamma teaching society. She enjoyed traveling, her gardens at the lake and time with family and friends. Despite many challenges in life she retained a sharp mind, a positive outlook and proved an inspiration to her extended family. Special thanks go to her longtime caregivers Marilyn and Becky.
