Obituary

HAYS, DORIS L. of Waterford, passed away on January 7, 2022 at 96 years of age. Doris was born on August 25, 1925 in Dawson, Pennsylvania to parents Ernest Lincoln and Olive Mae Wingrove (Tomblin); beloved wife of the late Edmond William LaVire and the late Aaron Harold Hays; cherished mother of John Morgan LaVire, Les Edmond LaVire, Randall William (Karen) LaVire, Douglas Aaron Hays and step-mother of Timothy Scott Hays, Sandra Puckett and predeceased by step-children Derrick T. Hays and Charles Preston Hays; proud grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 5 with two great grandchildren on the way; dearest sister of Sandy Whitlock. Doris graduated from High School in Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, she moved to Dearborn, Michigan to work with her aunt Vivian "Vi" who owned a bunch of rental properties. One could say that job brought her the two most important men in her life; her first husband Edmond when he was staying at one of the rentals and once he passed she met her second husband while doing house repairs. Doris was very smart and motivated, she worked for Pontiac General hospital in the accounting department, was a bookkeeper for the Teamsters, president of PTA and a librarian at the schools her children attended. What she enjoyed most was spending time at her cabin on 45 acres in Freesoil, Michigan. Doris will be missed by her family, friends, and community. A committal service will take place Friday, January 14, 2022 at 1 PM Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Michigan.
