Obituary

Christine “Tina” VanderElzen

Christine “Tina” VanderElzen was a loving wife, mother, Nana, and cherished friend whose warmth made everyone around her feel welcome.

Tina was the beloved wife of Robertus “Rob” VanderElzen. She was a devoted mother to Sean VanderElzen (Christina), Michael VanderElzen (Todd Bronkema), Jessica VanderElzen, and Emmie Kennedy (James). Her greatest joy was being Nana to Julia, Ethan, Lauren, Drew, Dominic, Jonathan, Morgan, Ava, Robbie, Theo, and Jack.

Tina was honest to a fault, but maintained the rare gift of making people feel seen, valued, and heard. She showed her love in countless ways, including through her cooking and by always offering cookies to those who entered her home. She invited everyone into her heart and home, offering kindness, comfort, laughter, and a sense of belonging. Her love reached far beyond her immediate family; she will be deeply missed by the many people who called her family, friend, and neighbor.

Tina’s generous spirit and loving memory will live on in all who knew her. She carries on her giving legacy through her registration with Gift of Life as a donor. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, connection, a home, and a heart that always had room for one more.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 12:30 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME – WATERFORD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gift of Life Michigan or Waterford Meals on Wheels.
