Raiss, Christine Regina of Lake Angelus, MI passed away May 27, 2021 at 72 years of age. Born March 15, 1949 in Hazel Park, MI, daughter of Stanley A. Rama and Regina Rama (nee Portalski), beloved wife of Dr. Gregory Raiss for 52 years, cherished mother of Kimberly (Michael) Rushing and Valerie Raiss, proud grandmother of William and Alicia Rushing, sister of Stanley J. Rama, Joseph Rama (deceased), and Robert (Deborah) Rama. Christine was a fighter. Diagnosed with cancer at age 16, she underwent surgery and radiation therapy while a senior in high school. She defeated the cancer but developed lifelong physical and cosmetic complications from the radiation treatments. She developed two new cancers in 2017 and 2019 requiring further operations and more radiation, the latter leaving her with new complications and declining health which finally claimed her life. She tolerated decades of health issues with grace and without complaint. In 1965 she met Greg through her brother Stanley and fell in love. They were married May 3, 1969 and were blessed with two children. After many moves, they finally settled in Lake Angelus almost 30 years ago where many new memories were created. She was a hard worker and never sought reward or praise even though the quality of her work garnered both. She worked outside the home for first 20 years of her marriage including serving as office manager and secretary for 12 law professors at Cooley Law School in Lansing, MI where she would win the March Madness betting pool defeating the all-male faculty. She was a natural artist and took special pride in her beautiful penmanship including self-taught calligraphy. Favorite activities included playing cards, organization of her home with her label machine, creating reminder notes, boating, coloring, word puzzles, and traveling with her husband, kids and grandchildren but her grandchildren were the source of her greatest joy. She never missed any of their activities including sports and school band concerts in any weather. She was their biggest cheerleader. Her family and friends will also surely miss her politically incorrect joke books but mostly we will miss her smile and upbeat attitude which was the core of her personality.
