Charlene Joy
Neiswonder
Aug 15, 1939 — Sep 6, 2026
Charlene Joy Neiswonder, 87, of Clarkston, Michigan, passed away on September 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Charlene was born on August 15, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to Emerson Schink and Ione Schink. She was a 1957 graduate of Redford High School. Charlene went on to further her education at Michigan State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught for just a couple years prior to becoming a full-time Mom.
Charlene was an amazing mother, becoming involved in every aspect of her two children’s lives. She volunteered in the classroom and carted them to every event, lesson and activity.
She loved to cook and bake, making the best Dutch Apple Pie around. Charlene was very artistic and crafty, a skill not inherited by her children unfortunately. She was so good at it, she sold her creations at craft fairs for several years.
She raised her children surrounded by lake activities on Lake Oakland. The neighborhood beach was a focal point for the family. Charlene volunteered at the “Weenie Shack” as well as organizing several events that occurred at the beach.
Charlene went back to work at a local credit union when her daughter commenced post-secondary education to assist with college expenses. She later became assistant manager at LOC Credit Union in Howell. Following her retirement, she worked during tax season at H&R Block for a few years.
Surviving are her two children, Suzanne Wagner (Mark Luttik) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Jeff Neiswonder (Dody) of White Lake; as well as three grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She is also survived by two nieces and one nephew. She was proceeded in death by her parents and sibling JoAnne Coombes.
A private celebration of life will occur at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association. Arrangements entrusted to COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. To post a tribute, visit www.CoatsFuneralHome.com.
