Obituary

SMITH, EDDIS CAROLYN of Waterford, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023. Carolyn was born in Macon County, North Carolina, on June 07, 1939. She graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1956 and married James Donald Smith. They remained married for 63 years until his passing in March of 2023. They had one daughter Sherrie Lall-Smith. Carolyn spent her early childhood in rural North Carolina. She talked fondly about growing up there, especially telling stories of her pet pig Oliver. She moved to Michigan in her adolescence. Carolyn spent her adult life caring for her daughter Sherrie and grandchildren Max and Sam. Carolyn's favorite hobbies included shopping, homemaking, camping, and spending time with friends and family. She traveled most of the continental U.S. with her family, including Hawaii, where she saw Elvis perform. Carolyn was a committed wife who cared for Jim for 63 years. She spent her last years by his side. Carolyn was known for her outgoing nature. She always had a story to tell and a hug to give. Her friends would remark that she was high on life. As a grandmother, she was second to none. She played a vital role in raising her two grandsons into the compassionate men they are today, both achieving graduate degrees and Max becoming a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. They will always treasure her. Above all else, Carolyn was a devoted Christian. Carolyn was a dear friend, neighbor, mother, and grandmother. She was compassionate, energetic, and always ready to share a laugh or a cry. Carolyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherrie Lall-Smith, RN, and husband, James Donald Smith. She is survived by her son-in-Law, Sunil Lall, grandsons Dr. Maxwell Lall, and Samuel Lall, M.S. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Carolyn's life Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 1 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. Family will receive friends Sunday 11 AM until time of service.
