Obituary

Brenda Jean Burt, of Hartland, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026, at the age of 71. Brenda was born in Middletown, Ohio, to Marshall and Mary Tester (nee Brewer). She had a fun, wild, and unforgettable spirit, along with a personality that could light up any room. Brenda lived life on her own terms and had a way of making people feel welcome, entertained, and loved.

For most of her life, Brenda worked as a bartender, a job that suited her outgoing personality perfectly. She bartended at places including the Six Lakes Gun Club and the Eagles Club off Union Lake Road, where she was also a proud member of the Eagles. Brenda loved the people, the stories, and the friendships she made along the way.

Brenda enjoyed all the things that made life fun. She loved playing the slots, poker, bingo, and cards. She had a love for clothes and jewelry and was always dressed to the nines—even if she was just going to Walmart. She loved to travel, listen to music, and dance, and she was always determined to be good at whatever she set her mind to. In the warm Michigan months Brenda was often found tending her flowers or admiring her impeccable fairy gardens.

Brenda was not the youngest child in the family, but she was treated like the baby—and everyone knew it, family and friends alike. She had a special place in the hearts of those around her and will be remembered for her strong personality, sense of fun, generosity, and unmistakable zest for life.

Brenda leaves behind her beloved son, David (Ashley); her ex-husband and dear friend, Todd Burt; grandchildren Travis, Jacob, Jillyan, Bryson, and Riley; and step-grandchildren Destiny, Jazmine, and Drake. Great grandchildren Aidyn, Aubrey and Modesta. She is also survived by her siblings Sheila (Benny), Sandy (Loni), Sharla, Kris (Kenny), and brother-in-law Rick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Mary Tester, and her siblings, Shirley and Joe, as well as her granddaughter Cambra Jean.

Brenda leaves behind many memories, stories, laughs, and friendships that will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her fun-loving spirit and unforgettable personality will never be forgotten.

A celebration dinner in honor of Brenda's life will be held at OverTyme Grill & Tap Room on Wednesday October 21st, 2026 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Inurnment will take place at Ottawa Park Cemetery.
