Betty Ann
(Mcallister) Smith
Oct 4, 1946 — Apr 25, 2026
Betty Ann Smith, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, at the age of 79. She was born and raised in Port Huron, Michigan to her parents John and Hazel McAllister. She was a proud graduate from Port Huron High School. She will be dearly missed by her brother John and her sister Dorothy, She was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn.
Betty was the beloved wife of Jim Smith, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life grounded in love, partnership, and unwavering support. She was a proud and caring mother to her son, Scott Smith, who was one of her greatest joys.
Family was at the heart of everything Betty did. She was blessed with a large extended family, including eleven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, along with many nieces and nephews who brought her immense pride and happiness. She treasured every gathering, every conversation, and every moment spent surrounded by those she loved.
Betty gave generously of her time to others. She worked diligently for Clarkston schools for 27 years. She was a dedicated volunteer at Lighthouse Clarkston for many years and also served her community through her work at the Clarkston Library. Her kindness and quiet generosity left a lasting impact on countless lives.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures—taking her daily walks around the neighborhood, tending to her flowers and yard, and spending peaceful time outdoors. Betty had a special love for dogs, especially English Setters, and her affection for them was well known to those close to her. She also deeply cherished her time "up north" in Rose City, where she created lasting memories with her extended family.
Above all else, Betty's greatest love was her family including her three siblings. Her warmth, strength, and steady presence will be profoundly missed but forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the community she served, and the many lives she touched with her kindness.
She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Clarkston's "friends of the library" in Betty's name.
A memorial service honoring Betty's life will take place on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at Coats Funeral Home in Waterford. Family will receive friends beginning at 10am, funeral service will begin at 11am.
