Obituary

Parrott, Bertha Maebele "Bertie", of Waterford, passed away at the age of 79. She was born on April 15, 1947, to the loving parents Calvin A and Bertha E (nee Gidley) Thornton. Graduate of Waterford Kettering High School.

Bertie and the love of her life Raleigh met at First Baptist Church of Clarkston (downtown) and were married on August 13, 1966. Raleigh had been drafted into the U.S. Army and left 5 days later for basic training. He was stationed at Fort Belvoir Virginia, and Bertie was able to join him where they lived off base in Alexandria, Virginia for his two years of service. After Raleigh's discharge, they returned to Michigan, purchased their home in Waterford. Bertie began employment at Oakland County where she became Key Punch Supervisor eventually leaving to be a stay-at-home mom. Bertie later worked for the Waterford School District as a teacher's aide for approximately seven years. She was a talented and creative woman who loved keeping busy. She was also an exceptional cook and an even more talented baker, making cakes for birthdays, holidays, weddings and countless special occasions for more than 40 years. A woman of deep faith, Bertie was an active member of her church and participated in the choir and other ministries. Her home décor was bird houses, apples and a collection of Boyd's Bears. She also enjoyed playing Sudoku and spending time with the people she loved.

Bertie was the beloved wife of Raleigh Parrott, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage; loving mother of Jeffrey, Jason (Jessica), and Stephen; cherished grandmother of Laken, Lauren, Lilly, Elijah, and Jackson; and great-grandmother of Charlotte, many nephews and nieces, as well as great nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her siblings, Calvin "Gene" Thornton and Cheryl "Chari" (Mark) Christie.
