Learning to cope with the trials ahead and regaining a sense of hope is the goal of Coats Funeral Home’s grief counseling and support groups. We offer two grief counseling groups and also can guide you to other resources for special needs/preferences.
Road to Grief Recovery
Coats sponsors a professionally led adult grief support group for anyone grieving the death of a relative, friend, spouse or partner. A Road to Recovery provides education about the grief process, as well as an opportunity to receive emotional support and learn to cope in a safe, confidential setting. Bridges Bereavement Program
The Bridges Bereavement Program is a teen support group for ages 13 to 19 that meets in the spring, fall and winter for five weeks. This program helps teens express their feelings and cope with their losses with the support of their peers and the guidance of a licensed counselor. The group meets at churches, centers and schools in the community and is led by Coats Certified Grief Counselor at no cost. Meet Our Grief Counselor
Grief Counselor Alicia Brown is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in grief and loss. With more than 16 years of experience in psychiatric, bereavement and addictions counseling, she currently is in private practice and facilitates Coats Funeral Home’s grief counseling services.
Alicia has presented numerous workshops for civic groups, community education, churches, funeral homes, colleges, hospitals, hospices and conference centers. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Human Service Management at Spring Arbor College and a Masters Degree in Counseling at Oakland University.

Senior Grief Support Group
The group meets the second and the fourth Thursday of the month from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at:

The Compassionate Friends is a self-help organization for families grieving the death of a child. The Lakes Area Chapter is a local chapter of this fine organization. Individuals specialize in specific needs, such as the loss of a child through an auto accident, substance abuse, infant death, and trauma.
