     - Do you plan graduations, open houses, weddings, and births before they  happen?

     - Do you plan funerals before the need arises?

     - Did you know that Coats Funeral Home offers funeral planning before the

       need arises?

     - Did you also know that there are numerous ways to have a funeral today,

unlike maybe the funeral you had for your grandparents?

To contact us regarding preplanning information please call us at 248-674-0461 or e-mail us at info@coatsfuneralhome.com with any questions or for information.

Your son is graduating from high school or college; your home needs a sprucing up for the open house. Your daughter calls with the big news that she is getting married. So now all the kinds of things that need to be done come to mind and you begin to make a list. If it's a wedding, there is a dress, invitations, the hall, entertainment, rehearsal dinner, flowers, music…the list goes on. Now how would you feel if you found out your daughter wanted to get married tomorrow? You would be in a panic, right? But often we do that very thing when it comes to making funeral arrangements. Coats Funeral Home is dedicated to ensuring that you're not having to make those lists at the last minute or leaving that list to your loved ones. You can plan and even pay for your arrangements today. We also work with you after the funeral is over by assisting with grief counseling, insurance policies, Social Security, Veterans benefits, simple wills and more. Call us and take time to make that list today, not tomorrow.

Prearranged or Pre-Financed Services

Pre-arrangements or pre-financing funeral services are not for every family, but for some it can be a source of comfort knowing that things have been planned the way you want them. Coats Funeral Home made their first pre-arrangements in 1935. With a thorough knowledge of the laws governing pre-arrangements we offer people qualified counseling on this subject without cost or obligation.

If pre-financing is not for you, we do encourage you to have your wishes documented and on file.

What To Watch For

Have you ever heard the expression: "There's no such thing as a free lunch"? The same applies to funerals. If you are approached by phone, mail or in person, by anyone offering to draw up your will "free of charge" or show you how you can "save hundreds of dollars" on your funeral expenses, BEWARE! Listen, but get ALL the facts. DO NOT sign anything at that time! Then, go to your funeral home and see what they have to offer. Save a lot of money and trouble by following these simple rules:

  1. Never buy without checking around, no matter what the person may say.
  2. Never be pressured into signing a contract. Statements like: "This deal will only be available this one time" or "This is the last day we can make this offer" are pressure tactics.
  3. Always go to the prime source for accurate information. You would not ask a plumber about your furnace or your doctor about car parts. Likewise, you would not ask a cemetery man about funerals. Talk to your doctor about health problems, your attorney about legal matters, and your funeral director about anything having to do with funerals and funeral merchandise.

Choosing a Funeral Home

When it becomes necessary there are a number of things to consider; reputation, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, location, interior and exterior décor and last but certainly not least, their prices.

Reputation
Check with your clergy or friends and neighbors who have been in the community for some time. They probably will have an accurate reading of the firm's reputation.

Staff
If you have attended services at the establishment before, you will be the judge of the friendliness, courtesy, and helpfulness of the staff. If not, ask your friends or neighbors who have.

Location
Is the firm located in a relatively quite neighborhood where elderly drivers can enter and exit in safety, or on a major thoroughfare in a highly commercial area? Are there adequate parking facilities? Can people get out of their car under cover from rain or snow? Can handicapped people get in and out of the building easily?

Decor
Is the décor basically pleasant or too ostentatious? Sociologists say the colors of nature are the most comfortable to people to under stress. Does the building look and feel comfortable to you?

Prices
For a true comparison of prices between funeral homes, get a written quote for exactly the same services and exactly the same casket from the firms to be compared.

We invite you to discuss freely and frankly with us questions you may have regarding any aspects of the funeral including our fees. Funeral directors serve best when such service is based on a mutual understanding with those who seek their services. This should prevail during the arrangements for the funeral and until all the needs and desires of the survivors have been satisfied.
