SHAFTO Alice W.
passed away July 1, 2018 with her sons and daughter at her side. Alice was born in New Waterford of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Canada on Jan. 11, 1928. She came to the United States of America when she was eight years old to live with her aunt and uncle. She married her late husband Richard Lawrence Shafto on Jan. 14, 1950. Alice was preceded in death by her four brothers. She was a loving homemaker and raised five children, Thomas (deceased), Michael (Cindy), Richard (Cecilia), Nancy (Richard) and Thomas (Leslie); seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Hosting Halloween trick-or-treating, playing cards, traveling, bowling, (often scoring 200+) and going to the casino were some of her favorite activities. Alice always had the best luck when it came to games, drawings and lottery. For her most recent birthday party, Alice stood on the table and danced for the picture on her invitation. She celebrated 90 years with dozens of family and friends. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and conversations that were always filled with laughter. Alice worked for many years at Bobbett’s Lingerie in Pontiac. She and her husband Richard were longtime members of the Pontiac/Waterford Elks Lodge #810. "Too-Too, Sweet Alice. Until we see you, again."
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at our WATERFORD location.
Friday, July 6, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. Pastor Martin Woody officiating. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
We only met months ago but our mutual feelings grew into a wonderful blessed friendship. I will miss your beautiful smile and you calling me “Tulip” and me greeting you by “Hows my Lady”. My heart is broken but
you have left me with such wonderful memories. God bless the wonderful children you raised and watch over them as you did with your love. Rest In Peace Alice. Love, Elaine

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
The greatest neighbor you could ever ask for. We lived next door to the Shafto’s for 30 years. They treated us like family since we moved in. Dick taught me about gardening and home ownership. Alice taught me about being a good neighbor and having fun along the way. She loved her family because she told me all the time. We would have lots of over the fence chats. We missed her smile when we moved to Florida a couple of years ago. I am so grateful that I met Alice, sometimes god puts people in your life that make you better that was Alice. God bless her and may she Rest In Peace
I am so sorry to hear about Alice passing! She was a wonderful woman! Prayers to the entire family!
